Dragonfly Kusudama Flowers

I absolutely LOVE the Pop Kuts available through Bosskut Die Cuts!!  Another one of my favorite projects includes origami.  Having wanted to find a way to incorporate the 2 together, I was finally able to work my through using the tools available in Funtime to get the look I wanted.

With the help from the video, Using the Edit Tools, I was able to edit the Pop Kut Dragonfly so that it would still be attached to the paper that I needed to fold for each of the pedals of the Kusudama flower.  First I started by creating a border around the Pop Kut dragonfly.  Then I created a square and placed the dragonfly at a corner.  Using the scissors in the edit tools, I cut where I needed and reattached in other places.  I will honestly admit that this took some trial and error until I finally got what I was looking for.  In the end, I'm very happy with how they turned out and I look forward to making more!!

Another, easier option was to first assemble the Kusudama flower and cut out the dragonfly separately.  I then attached the dragonfly to the Kusudama flower and am ready to make more for a complete bouquet!!

Just for fun, whenever my daughter sees me working on a project I always end up with A LOT of "help" :o).  When she saw the dragonfly, of  course she wanted one too BUT it had to be in purple!  So I let her pick out the paper and we made her one just for her.

Lions, Tigers, and Wings . . . OH MY!!!

A just for fun project and because I had 3 left over plain glass mugs I decided to add some of my favorite teams to them. 

The picture above simply shows the vinyl on the glass.  I LOVE the option in the Funtime to "weed" just before cutting your design.  All is simply does is add a rectangle around your design to make it easier to removed the parts of the cut you would like to etch on the glass.

Above you can see all the etching cream that I've added to the glasses.  After I've applied the layer of etching cream thoroughly on the glass, I wait 7.5 minutes.  Once the timer goes off, using my paint brush, I work the etching cream around again to avoid having missed any spots.  I'll also add addition cream if I feel that it needs any.  I set the timer for another 7.5 minutes and usually am not waiting so patiently.  :o)

Once the timer goes off, I remove any excess etching cream and put it back in the bottle for future use.  Then I rinse the rest of the cream off in the sink and removed the vinyl.

Here's a good place to note: I made a bit of a mistake on the Red Wing mug.  I was working on all 3 mugs at the same time.  What I did was rinse a mug then set it in the sink and moved on to the next one.  After I had all of them rinsed once, I would removed the vinyl.  The problem with that was when I rinsed them the first time around, some of the vinyl would raise off of the glass and etching cream would get underneath it.  What I should have done was, rinse a mug, removed the vinyl, and then finish rinsing it off completely.  This would have kept the etching cream from seeping underneath the vinyl.  Leason learned!!

Now all my mugs have been safely stored in the freezer for the next time they may be needed.  I foresee that happening sometime this evening!!  :o)

Words of Wisdom for the Mommy-to-be

It just seems to me that sometimes the simplest projects are the ones that have the most impact!

I keep hearing about first time pregnancies so much lately and I'm so excited for these families!  Almost makes me want another one . . . . ALMOST!!  :o)  With these new pregnancies brings the thoughts of baby showers and all the confusion that comes with a new baby.

For this project I decided to go with cards that can be passed out at the baby shower that offers the attendees to provide words of wisdom to the mommy-to-be.  So simply made, it's easy to make as many as you'd need for the baby shower, then place them at the tables and let the attendees go!!

Before I get to much further into how I made these, I want to point out how easy it is save on paper even with the 3pt print and cut.  In the Funtime software you can simply move the crop marks closer to the image that you want to cut around.  In the image below, you can see that I had other things that I had worked on in other projects.  I followed the steps as usual with print and cut after moving the crop marks and was able utilize more the paper.

Back to my project, I started out using several different patterns of paper and cut out the beautiful Baby Bottle Tag by Judy Stark, making sure to print the smaller rectangle in white cardstock.  The white cardstock is where the attendees with write their words of wisdom to the mommy-to-be.  Let me just say how wonderfully this cut!!

What a fun, cute little tag that the mommy-to-be will cherish forever!  Make sure to have the attendees sign their words of wisdom so that there will forever be a record of their participation.

After all the tags have been collected be sure to secure them together at the top with some ribbon.

May You Rest In Peace

Laura Henson

February 1, 1946 - July 18, 2012

God looked around His garden and found an empty place.  He them looked down upon the Earth and saw your tired face.  He put His arms around you and lifted you to rest.  God's garden must be beautiful, He always takes the best.  He saw the road was getting rough and the hills were hard to climb, so He closed your weary eyelids and whispered "Peace be thine."  It broke our hearts to lose you, but you didn't go alone.  For part of us went with you, the day God called you home.

Sorry for the poor quality of the picture.  I took the pic with my phone because I didn't have my camera with me, just one of those things you don't think to pack when you're headed out of town for a funeral.

Once we got down state, I was asked to create a poster board to display pictures.  It was my pleasure to be able to do this.  I went through so many pictures of the past and enjoyed a trip down memory lane.  I loved how the project gave me some time to grieve and celebrate one very beautiful lady!!

I started by sponge painting the plain white poster board with my aunts favorite color, purple.  Then I cussed often because my Gazelle was back home up North and I was downstate . . . only a 3.5 hour drive.  :o/

I made a quick trip to a couple of craft stores in the area and then got to work.  I kept it simple so that I wouldn't take away from the pics, but it sure would have been really nice to have my Gazelle (me still cussing).

With some paper flowers, brads, and stickers I put it together for the viewing and the funeral.  I'd like to think that my beloved Aunt Laura would have loved it.

Celebrate America Wreath

Red, white, and blue are my favorite colors and I absolutely love celebrating all the patriotic holidays throughout the year!  I needed a Patriotic wreath that I could hang all year if I wanted and still celebrate the current holiday.

DID YOU KNOW, that in Funtime you can easily create a charm from your designs?!  It's with this special effect that I was easily able to take my wreath and transform it from holiday to holiday!

I started with a 16" foam wreath and wrapped it with red, white, and blue fun fur yarn and silver glitter eyelash fun fur yarn.  It was a pain managing the 4 different yarns at once but I'm very happy with the results!!

Before I finished covering the foam wreath with the yarn I added a hook.  My thought was that I didn't want to add the hook after the yarn was done because I was afraid that the hook would cut through the yarn.  Didn't want to have to repair what I'd already done!!

To decorate around the wreath, I used the 4th of July Mini Collection BKD021 and added "Celebrate America" outlined to the top of the wreath and the Bottle Rockets by Olivia Myers 0952 to the bottom.

To the sides, I added the sparkles from the 4th of July Mini Collection BKD 021.  I cut them from the beautiful glitter paper available at Bosskut.  To layer them, I used seed beads between each sparkle and secured them to the wreath with push pins.

For the 4th of July sign, I started by layering the design in Funtime and once I had the look I wanted, I outlined the whole thing.  Then with the charm special effect, I added it to my outline.

I cut the finished outline from 110 lbs cardstock and using a cloud template I made, I used chalk to create a sky look.  For some added protection I applied Mod Podge to the entire cardstock.  Then using the beautiful glitter paper available at Bosskut, I cut out the Star Burst 0951 in various sizes.

I added 4 rhinestones to the 4, because you can never have too much bling on the Fourth of July!!  Using 1/8" 3-D dots, I attached the "Happy 4th of July" sentiment.  Now it's all set to hang each 4th of July!!

While I still have quite a few patriotic holidays to account for, I was able to get a Service Flag and Yellow Ribbon completed.

My Service Flag I made sure to make the stars removable.  I have 2 brothers currently serving in the United States Air Force and my dearest husband serves in the United States Army.  From time to time there's a multiple of deployments and I wanted to be able to represent each loved person during their deployment.  The Service Flag is simply put together with basic shapes and a ribbon secured to it with brads.

My Yellow Ribbon proudly displays my husband's name and the Army seal.  HOOAH!!  I also used the charm special effect on the ribbon.  :o)

Thank You Card

Here's a VERY simple card that I made that will hopefully speak volumes to one special Nana.  My daughter received a butterfly kite, which she LOVES, from her Nana and we've had to go outside to fly it just about every day.  As you can tell by the smile on my daughter's face, she truly enjoys it!!

Using a photo of my daughter I started out by cropping her out on my PaintShop Pro and then imported it into Funtime.  Using the print and cut option, I printed her picture out and then cut the oval out around her.  I also used the print and cut feature to cut out the cloud with the "Thank You Nana" sentiment.

Since she received a butterfly kite, I used the Butterfly Silhouette available at Bosskut.  For the body of the butterfly, I used seed beads for some additional dimension and some ribbon as the tail of the kite.

Celebrate America Card

For this project, I started out with a tri shutter card template provided by Terri on the Gazelle Owner's Forum.  Thank you so much Terri!!

I used the sparklers and the "Celebrate America" files from the 4th of July mini collection. 

For the Statue of Liberty I used a coloring page that I found here.  I imported the jpeg into my Funtime and used the auto vecto to create the cut file.  Then I used a very fine black marker to "color in" the inside cut lines.  I replaced the pen with the blade holder and cut the outline.
 

The Liberty Bell is a true type font, US-Bats that I downloaded from dafont.com.  Using the same technique as I did the Statue of Liberty, I started with a very fine black pen to "color in" the inside cut lines.  I then replaced the pen with the blade holder and cut along the outside line.

This is the first card that I've submitted for challenges!!  So excited that I've finally taken the plunge!  I hope that I haven't broken etiquette on this but I did submit this one card to 2 different forums for their challenges.  I didn't see anything that said that I couldn't but I just wanted to make sure to add this disclaimer.  I have no intentions of offending anyone!  :o)
