Vinyl Decorated Mailbox

For this project I thought that it was about time that I added a little more decoration to our mail box.  Keep in mind that we put this mailbox up 8 years ago when we first moved in and it's just sat there . . . black and plain.  Very sad. 

I started with the "G" using the true type font Easy Street EPS.  The problem I had was this font was really thin in some spots.  To "thicken" it up I used the outline option in Special Effects.  I only outlined it by 0.01 because I didn't want to lose the "G" in the outline.

I then lined up the swirls on either side of the "G" and cut the image out as a whole making sure to use the weeding option in the Cutting Control Panel.

 

 

I used transfer tape to maintain the integrity of the design and to place it on both sides of the mailbox.

 

For additional decoration, I added several of the beautiful butterflies in no particular order.

4th of July Table Decoration

Since we'll be hosting a little BBQ on the 4th of July I wanted some cute little table decorations.  I could have just bought some but where is the fun in that?!?

For the flowers, I simply cut out several of the beautiful flowers that are available through Boss Kut in red, white, and blue.  Then randomly layered them making sure to get one of each the red, white, and blue.

I mixed some Mod Podge with glitter and then coated them!  Once the Mod Podge was mostly dry, I really am working on my patience, I attached a flower stem to the back so that they would stand up in the vase.

 
For the stripes on the flag, I layered the Lace Border by Judy Stark BKD 032.  Since the file was long enough and I wanted to maintain the integrity of the file, I duplicated the border and then welded the 2 together.

 

In order to get the stars lined up the way I wanted them, I used the multiply function in Funtime.  It made it so simple.

 

I cut the stars out of the blue card stock and then layered that on top of white card stock.  Super easy!!

 

Below is a picture that gives you an idea of how small the stars were.  The Gazelle cut them out beautifully!!  Each square is only 1 inch by 1 inch!



 

Now I guess I need to decide how many tables I'll be setting up so that I know how many more I need to make.  :o)

Embossing with the Gazelle

For this project I decided I wanted to see what my Gazelle could do with some chip board!  My goal was to take one of the beautiful BossKut Designs and make an embossing folder that I could pass through my manual die cutter press.

Using one of the chip boards that I've received when ordering family photos, I cut out the Swirly Flourish by Judy Stark BKD 201.  I cut a rectangle around it and then cut an identical sized rectangle.  I used a standard blade, speed 1, and force 5 to cut the chip board.

I applied masking tape to one of the sides, making my 2 rectangles a sandwich.  Then I put the die cuts back into the rectangle that I cut them from and applied glue to the side that would touch the other rectangle.  I folded the 2 rectangles together, making sure that the negative matched up with the die cut.

Since I was having so much fun with the embossing, I had to put my Gazelle to work and emboss some vellum as well.  I used the embossing tool and embossing mat to emboss the vellum.  I chose to use a lower force setting of 2 and multiple passes (4) to get the look I wanted.

For additional decoration to the card, I used the new release Swirly Butterfly by Judy Stark BKD 200.  With a few self adhesive pearls, these adorable butterflies really completed the look of the card.

Father's Day Keepsake Box

Thinking up masculine crafting projects always seems to be a challenge for me, which does me no good when it comes to Father's Day gifts!  While searching through the Boss Kut Die Cuts I came across this Lattice Match Box by Terri Mouw BKD001.  Using the Real Wood Thin Cherry, I thought that this would be a perfect little box for my children to put little trinkets into for Dad!

 

Once cutting out the outer layer of the box in the Real Wood Thin Cherry, I inked the edges to help with contrast.  The using small silver brads, I added them to the scallops.

 

I chose to cut out the lattice on the top although with this file you don't have to.  For the inside, I cut out a rectangle in a dark green card stock and glued it so that you couldn't see inside the box.

 

For the part of the box that will hold all our special little trinkets, I chose to cut it out in dark green card stock.

Using another feature available with the Gazelle, I decided to add a tag to the inside box with the sentiment "Father's Day 2013."  I put a brown Sharpie pen in the blade holder of the Gazelle and "cut" out my sentiment.  LOVE the fact that you do NOT need any special tool to use a pen!  Simply put the pen directly into the blade holder and tighten the screw.

Then I put the blade back in and cut the Tag 0836.  The same with the scallops on the lid, I inked the edges for additional dimension.

I loved working with the Real Wood Thin Cherry and am already looking forward to purchasing some more from Boss Kut for additional projects!

Ballerina 2-page Scrapbook Layout

I'm not usually one that is into scrap booking but have decided it was time to start stepping onto unfamiliar grounds.  A wonderful friend invited me to a crop last month and I took her up on the invite.  I was very much intrigued by all the beautiful scrapbook pages that I saw her creating.  I guess you could say that it struck a fire in me to start.

Although my daughter has been involved in dance classes since she was 18 months old, this year was her first dance recital on stage!  I am one proud Momma!  Using this first of hers, I decided it was time to create a scrapbook page using the beautiful photos of her.

The first page show cases one of my favorite pictures of her and the Boss Kut Kids by Karen Taglia 0760 in the Ballet Outfit by Karen Taglia 0761.

 



I chose to dress this beautiful little ballerina all in pink, just like my daughter's recital outfit was.  I did ink the outfit some for additional detail and dimension.  Although it's hard to see in this picture, I cut the legs in pink and did an identical cut of the legs in vellum.  I felt that this gave the "leggings" a more natural look.

 

The tiara is from the Princess Hand Mirror by Judy Stark BKD002 with a slight modification.

 

The new Heart Doily by Judy Stark BKD191 made a perfect place to put my picture center stage and tie both of the pages together.  I absolutely LOVED the way that this cut out and looks at 11.5" high!!  Beautiful!

 

 
On the second page of my layout I chose a Funtime font and added the outline to it.  I love the way that Funtime makes it so easy to create titles!

Princess Magnetic Countdown

Everytime this year after my daughter's dance recital, we start looking at what we're going to do to keep ourselves busy during the summer.  This year her dance studio is offering a 3-day Princess Camp where she can get all dressed up and learn how to be a princess!  She's so excited and asks everyday when she gets to go.  Unfortunately at this time she doesn't have a full grasp of time, so I've created a countdown calendar for her.  We'll change the number of days each day and she'll be able to see how many cards are left.  I'm truly hoping that this will help make it easier for her.

For the actual countdown, I started with the new Butterfly Frame by Judy Stark BKD 189.  I ran the card stock of choice through my Xyron machine, laminating the front and applying magnetic backing to it.  Then I placed it on my cutting mat and the Gazelle cut through it on 1 pass with no problems!!  Love, LOVE it!

 

For the numbers counting down, I simply created the text in Funtime and printed it out.  Then just cut the shape around it.  Simple and fast.  I inked the edges to give the white card stock a little more dimension to it.

 

The Princess Hand Mirror by Judy Stark BKD 002 gave me a little more trouble.  I knew that I wanted different layers to it but I also wanted the Gazelle to cut the shape of the mirror around all the layers AFTER I had laminated it.  Clear as mud?  :o)

 

Example, usually when I'm cutting a shape from my magnetic material it's a basic shape and a single layer of card stock that's been passed through the laminate/magnetic cartridge of my Xyron.

Since I wanted layers on the mirror, I had to cut the paper, picture, and handle out BEFORE passing it through my Xyron.  Then my dilemma was, how do I place my project on the cutting mat making sure that I get it just right so that it cuts around my layered pieces.

After layering the picture, princess hand mirror, and the handle, I ran them through the Xyron.  This gave me the rectangle that I was wanting to avoid.

In Funtime, I created a outline around the entire image.  Then with the new feature in Funtime IV, I turned on the cutting mat view.  Making sure that the image was placed just about where I had placed it on the actual cutting mat, I crossed my fingers and hit cut.

 

I was VERY impressed with just how close I actually got it!!  I added a few self adhesive rhinestones to the top, because what princess doesn't have a little bling?!

My daughter was very excited when it was completed and it very much looking forward to changing the countdown every day.  That to me is a very successful project!  :o)

Sweet Ice Cream Card

We're still waiting here in Northern Michigan for the local ice cream shoppes to open but that doesn't mean I'm not counting down the days!!  This sweet little Ice Cream Cone by Judy Stark BKD 108 sets the right mood for my desire of the warm sunny days.

For the cone, I inked the edges and used a VersaMarker to trace the inside cuts.  I wanted to make sure to bring out the beautiful details that were made for this file!  I added some clear accents to the chocolate on top of my cone to give that candy coated feeling.

 
In addition to the ice cream cone, there's this print n cut that comes with it!  When picking out my papers for this card, I centered them around it.
 

I made sure that add the Card Band Lace by Judy Stark BKD 093 to help transition between the bottom patterned card stock and the top pink.

Paper Piecing Lily

I'm back again with another coloring book page that I imported into Funtime and converted into a paper piecing masterpiece!!  I've visited this particular website a couple of times for the color book pages and I just loved the Lily.  Now if you visit the color by number you'll notice that I didn't exactly follow their "recommendations" and I didn't notice that until after I was done.  Guess that just means I'll have to go back, cut it again, and make another!  :o)
 

 

To make cutting the sections easy, I used the color palate in Funtime to change the line colors.  This allowed me to cut the leaves separate from the pedals.

For more information on how to convert any digital coloring book page to a paper piecing or print and cut file, check out Terri's video!  She provides you with step-by-step instructions and makes it really easy for you.

I duplicated the whole image and changed the pen style to the kiss cut. I made sure to leave my outer most rectangle as the regular cut. Doing this allows me to cut out the rectangle (in this case) and then leave the pattern to follow while I'm piecing my page together! Love this tip, BIG thank to Terri for this one!! Make sure to watch the entirety of the video shared above to see how easy this is to do
 

 

It took me forever to decided how I wanted the pedals to look.  I kept going back and forth between keeping them white and coloring them.  Finally I decided to cut out the pedals in white card stock and inked them up until I got the look I wanted.

 

I also inked the edges of the leaves to give them more dimension than what a plain colored green card stock can.

 

I added the white frame around the paper piecing and although I loved the way the lilies looked, there was something definitely missing!  After searching the Boss Kut Die Cuts, I found the Delicate Flourish 0728 and Corner Scroll 0738 to the perfect finishing touch.
 

 

I inked the edges of both embellishments and used a VersaMarker on the leaves of the Delicate Flourish 0728.

Japan File Folder Keepsake

In February my dearest hubby and I went to Okinawa, Japan.  We visited with my brother, who is currently stationed there, and his wonderful family.  We had such a great time and came back with so many memories.  We also came back with plenty of souvenirs that now need a good home.

I started out with folding a manila file folder and then inked the edges. 

Then I printed out a world map and used a tea bag to give the map an aged look.  After applying the map to the file folder, I threaded some red embroidery thread to created the dotted line from the United States to Japan.

I attached a piece of ribbon on the back to tie the folder shut.  Then using different designer card stock, I decorated each of the remaining sections.

The flowers were absolutely beautiful in Japan while we were there.  The front of the folder was inspired by the cherry blossoms that were in bloom while we were there.  Using the Fifties Flower 0504 and the branch I decorated the front fold of the file folder. 

Each of the fifties flowers that were cut were a little over a quarter of an inch!  My Gazelle did a beautiful job cutting each of them out.

Using my stylus, I went in circle in the center of the flower to get the flower to fold toward in.  Then I inked each flower to give them a realistic feel.  I just love how my cherry blossom tree turned out that I'm sure to use it again!

Below is a picture of the file folder opened up.  Each pocket is going to hold our receipts, pamphlets, and other goodies from our trip.
 

I chose to use the Hibiscus paper piecing 0390 because it reminded me of one of my favorite pictures that I took.  I cut out 2 of the larger pieces so that I could put in the additional layer.  I inked the center red so that it would like the yellow faded into the red.

Edible Boss Kut Dies!

Add a Boss Kut die cut to a mocha brownie and it just doesn't get any better than that!!  Beautiful and delicious all-in-one.  :o)

I started out with getting my brownie batter mixed and in the oven.  Once that was baking, I got out my egg shaped cookie cutter and measure it so that I knew how wide to make the die cuts.

I selected various Boss Kut Die Cuts and cut them out on some scrap paper that I had.  The Gazelle was much faster at getting this part done then the oven did at getting the brownies baked!  :o)

With the brownies done and cooled off, I cut out the egg shapes with the cookie cutter.  I placed my egg shaped brownies on some wax paper and laid the die cuts on top of them.  With a shifter, I put some confectioner sugar on top.

 
Carefully I lifted the die cuts off of the brownies and set them off to the side.  While I did have some of a disagreement with some of the sugar, for the most part I'm really happy with how they turned out!!  Super cute and yummy!!
 

This fun little project took little time and was VERY easy!  Got me to thinking about what you might be able to do with a cake, or a cookie cake.  Maybe use the negative of a cut to create the outline to follow with pipe frosting or gel . . . . hmmmmmm.  ;o)

Hoppy Easter Banner

Hippity hoppity Easter's on it's way!  With Easter just around the corner, we're getting the house decorated accordingly and the only thing missing was a banner.  With some help from the adorable files available at Boss Kut Die Cuts I was able to create a cute banner that my children love!

Using the Egg Blank 0642 I started by adding 2 cut lines at the top.  I added an eighth of an inch longer than the width of my ribbon so that it would be easier to thread the ribbon through.  I then cut out 11 of the eggs in various different papers.

I created the rosette using a piece of yellow card stock that measured 1" x 12".  I scored the strip of paper every 1/2" then flipped the paper upside down and scored every 1/4".  I wanted my rosette to have a egg shape, so I cut out an additional 11 eggs out of pink card stock.  I shaped my rosette to the egg as I glued them together.

I cut out the sentiment "HOPPY EASTER" using the true type font Crazy Harold.  To give the sentiment a little more pop and dimensions, I added an outline and cut that out in a different color.

For my 2 adorable Sitting Bunny Set by Judy Stark BKD 175, I cut each out in a different shade of natural color and inked the edges.  For the cut lines in the bunny, I traced them with a VersaMarker to help the details stand out.  I inked the "inside" of the ear and the cute little nose with pink.

 
For the eyes, I used a black extra fine pen to create eye lashes and to highlight the eyebrow.  To give the eyes additional dimension, I used a piece of white card stock and glued on a goggle eye.  For the inset look of the eye, I took the piece of white card stock with the goggle eye and added it to the back of the bunny using pop dots.

For each of the bunnies, I added a ribbon around their necks and inked the edges.  With my adorable girl bunny, I also added the beautiful flower that comes with the cut file.  I also added some self adhesive pearl embellishments.

Bible Easel Card

I started with using the book cutting file available in the Funtime Blue Book minus the actual pages that I needed for the book.  Don't forget to check out all those cut files that came with your Gazelle!!

The reason for not cutting out the pages yet is because I wanted to give my book a dimensional look and decided that adding more pages would help to achieve that.  Using a fantastic new feature in the Funtime IV software, I was able to increase the size of the pages by percentage!!  For this particular application, it makes it so much easier because the 2 pages of the book that I'm dealing with are different sizes by an odd number.

I re sized my book to 5 X 7 by using the Condense option in the Transformation box.  Fortunately with this particular cut file, by condensing it instead of maintaining the ratio it didn't noticeably distort the image.  I simply chose to do this because it made it easier to assemble a A7 envelope for mailing instead of creating a whole new envelope.  :o)

Now that my book is the size I'd like, I select the image and at the top under Shape, select Break all.  This gives me the ability to select the individual pages.  I chose to make a total of 4 pages (for each side) for my book.  Selecting each of the pages, make an additional 3 copies.

There was no magic in deciding the sizes of each of the layered pages.  I just picked a percentage I thought that work well and went with it.  So, keeping that in mind the top page will remain the size that was created when I condensed my whole book to 5 X 7.  Each page after increases by 2.5%.

 

At this point you will definitely need the transformation box up and have either the Width or Height selected.  Select the second page, in the transformation box I selected Width, then click on the box next to the percentage sign.  Next to the W.: type in 102.5 and hit the Apply button.  You'll notice that once you've selected Apply, the numbers in the boxes will revert back to the measurements instead of the percentage.

The third page I increased by 105% and the final was increased by 107.5%.

I cut out the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th pages and shaded them with some ink.  For the first page I typed out and printed some of the NIV Bible from Mark 16 onto the top pages and cut out the pages around it.  I also added some ink to the edges of the first page.

For the place marker ribbon, I ironed on "He is Risen" using the beautiful black glitter heat transfer vinyl.  Using the video by Terri, Vertical Text, I typed out the sentiment vertically, spaced it to my liking, and then centered it.  Remember when you are working with heat transfer vinyl to cut the vinyl and NOT the backing.  When you go into the cut menu, make sure to "Mirror" your sentiment and "Weed" it.

To hold up my book I took 2 of the Dove with Scroll by Karen Taglia 0397 and welded them together.  I glued down the scroll to the base of the card and scored the doves so that they would stand up, supporting the book.

I cut the scrolls out in 110 lb card stock, which by the way my Gazelle cut out beautifully!!  Check out those clean cuts.  Using several different colors of ink pads, I dabbed the scroll to give it a speckled look.

Using the same technique with the inking, I inked the Cross by Karen Taglia 0344 and applied a self adhesive maroon pearl to the center.
