String Art Anniversary Card

Machine Used: Boss Kut Gazelle
Software: Funtime Scrapbooking III
Materials: Cardstock, embroidery thread
Challenges: The Outlawz Clean and Simple - Anything Goes

First and foremost, Happy Anniversary my Sweetheart.  I love you with all my heart and am so blessed to be married to my bestfriend, soul mate, and hero!

For this card I ventured into the art of spirelli and string art.  It was something I saw in one of the challenges I enjoy participating in and decided immediatelt that it was something that I wanted to try.  I love the look of it and am always looking at ways to expand my knowledge on ways to add to my paper crafting.

For the spirelli part I used the scalloped eyelet oval frames that Terri provided to participants of a challenge within the BossKut Forum.  Using the print and cut option with my Gazelle, I printed out my sentiment and cut the circle around it.

For the string art, I got the sail boat pattern for free and sized it appropriately to my card.

Another technique self taught and I'm thinking that you may be seeing this used again!

Friendship Bracelet

Materials: embroidery thread, clasp

While this isn't the crafting that I usually do, it was something my dearest daughter asked for.  She saw a friendship bracelet and immediately wanted one too!  Then came in the requests, it had to be purple because that's her favorite color.  Then she wanted hearts.  Yes dear, we'll see what can do!!  :o)

Now, it's been a looonngg time since I've made one of these.  Thankfully for the internet I was able to refresh the technique and find a pattern for hearts.  I alternated the pattern a bit to be able to change the color of the heart.

After finding what I needed, I asked her if it would be OK to add in some pink too (after all it would be hard to see the heart if the whole thing was the same color ;o)).

She hovered over me during each knot I tied and constantly asked if I was done yet.  Fortunately her wrists are so tiny it didn't take too long and I was able to finally put it on her wrist.

As she always is, she was very appreciative of the bracelet and even went so far to say that it made her look like a princess.  Of course, I always think she looks like a princess.  :o)

Welcome to the Family Card

Machine Used: Boss Kut Gazelle
Software: Funtime Scrapbooking III
Materials: Cardstock, google eyes
Files: Acorn
Challenges: The Outlawz Paper a la Mode Challenge - Welcome project theme

Crafting is my outlet when things seem to be at their worst.  It's a great way for me to lose myself and my thoughts to something I truly enjoy.  It also helps that my children enjoy watching me and help from time to time . . . well, as much as any 3 or 2 year-old can.  :o)  Crafting puts a smile on my face and takes the tension out of my body!  I LOVE IT!!

For this project the theme was "Welcome" and I can't tell you how perfect the timing was on this!  Taking some cues from my family, it was easy to decide to add some nuts to this card.  I finished off the nuts with some google eyes.

On the inside of the card I used my computer to print out the following sentiment.

Fonts used for the message in the card include Goudy Handtooled, Honey Script, Care Bear Family, Harrington, and Jokerman.

Just Because Card

Machine Used: Boss Kut Gazelle
Software: Funtime Scrapbooking III
Files Used: O'Hannah Frame Mat by Judy Stark BDK128Denny with Watering Can by Pink Gem Designs
Materials: Cardstock, rhinestones
Challenges: The Outlawz Twisted Thursday Challenge - Flowers and Rhinestone Twist

For this card I decided to do card using the adorable dragon that I've been holding on too forever!  I just needed the right inspiration for it.

I started by creating the size card in Funtime and imported the dragon on to my card where I wanted it.  After cutting the card out around the dragon I added some rhinestones to the flowers (after all, the twist is flowers AND rhinestones!).

Then using the new cut file from BossKut, I cut the basic frame mat from O'Hannah around the sentiment "Just because."

I added a couple of flowers (purchased from Michaels) on the front of the card with a rhinestone brad and some ribbon to the bottom.

Monarch Butterfly Shadowbox

Machine Used: Boss Kut Gazelle
Software: Funtime Scrapbooking III
Files Used: Heart Doily by Phyllis Parkins BKD092
Materials: Shadowbox, cardstock, preserved butterfly, rhinestones

One of the things that I remember very fondly from grade school is my 3rd grade class where each student was actually given a caterpillar.  We fed our caterpillars, watched them become a chrysalis, and then watched the Monarch emerge from the chrysalis.  I truly believe it was that teacher that helped fuel my love of nature.

On my property we have plenty of milkweed and see many Monarchs flying around.  While walking the property with my daughter (3) and son (2), I found a dead Monarch in perfect condition.  I showed my babies and my daughter was immediately mesmerized.  With this dead Monarch I saw a great opportunity to teach my children, hopefully fuel a love for nature, and a great crafting project!!

Once I had the butterfly at home I did some research on the internet to find out how best to preserve our butterfly so that we could display it.  Since the wings wouldn't move on their own, I had to put our butterfly in the rehydration box.

After a couple of days in the rehydration box, I was able to easily move the wings without damaging them.  Following the directions listed, I placed the butterfly in the position I wanted him for display and left him alone again for a few more days.

In between rehydrating and positioning the butterfly, I created the 13 x 13 layout where we would display our butterfly.

For the wording "Monarch" I used Goudy Handtooled available in Funtime.  I LOVED the way this font cut out and my Gazzy cut the small cutouts in the letters out beautifully!!!

I chose the Heart Doily by Phyllis Parkins BKD092 to place the butterfly on to show my love of nature.  I also added some ss-10 rhinestones for that little extra something.

The 4 Monarchs that I cut out were from this website.  I simply imported them into Funtime and used the option to auto vectorize them.  They turned out beautiful and just look at how well the Gazelle cut out those thin little antennas!!  I added some ss-10 rhinestones to the tops of the wings and called it good.

As I assembled this project I was prompted to do additional research on the Monarch butterfly.  It's amazing how much I remembered . . . after reading it all again.  I learned that the Monarch that my babies and I found is a male and you can tell by what looks like dots on the bottom part of the wing.  How cool is that?!

Masculine Thank You Card

Machine Used: Boss Kut Gazelle
Software: Funtime Scrapbooking III
Materials: Cardstock, ribbon

My dearest husband asked me the other day if I could make a thank you card for him to send to his granddad.

I started by typing out "Thank You" in the true type font Papyrus and then cut out the card around it.

Inspired by a cardband that I saw on another card, I created a cut file using basic shapes in Funtime.  I then layered that band on the darker blue and topped if off with a simple cream colored ribbon.

A very simple card for a very simple man!  :o)

Grandfather Clock Step Card

Machine Used: Boss Kut Gazelle
Software: Funtime Scrapbooking III
Materials: Cardstock, ribbon

This card was submitted as part of the Outlawz Paper Ala Mode challenge, which required creating a project around the theme of time flies.

I started out with a simple step card and created a grandfather clock cutout to the tall part.  The clock face I found at Open Clip Art Library.  I then imported it into Funtime and utilized the print and cut feature.

I decided to try something new, and drew the top of the pendulum.  Needless to say, I've learned that maybe I should stick to creating cut files and cut them out on cardstock instead.  :o)

For the sentiment, I simply typed it into Funtime using the true type fonts Old Script, Papyrus, and Adorable.  Using the print and cut feature again, I cut the rectangle around the sentiment.
