Scrapbooking A Deployment

Machine Used: BossKut Gazelle
Software: Funtime Scrapbooking IV
Files Used: Heart with Ribbon #JS1511 by Scrap Cuts by Judy

Finally got to the first 3 pages of the beautiful scrapbook that my dearest hubby bought me while deployed to Kuwait.  Now that I've got started, the ideas are flooding with what to do with additional pages!

For the first page, I wanted to honor my husband and the beautiful gift he gave me.  I started with one of my most favorite pics of him from the deployment.  For the write-up, I simply inserted a picture of a Kuwait map into Word and used the washed out option.  Then I typed up some minimal information regarding his deployment and printed it out.  VERY simple!!  I cut it out to the size I wanted and then inked the edges for some additional dimension.

This beautiful file, Heart with Ribbon #JS1511, I got from Scrap Cuts by Judy!  I felt it was the perfect accent to this first page that showed where my love and support is.

Of course I had to do an additional second and third page because I had a few more pictures that I wanted to display along with a sweet card that he sent me.

For the second page I made sure to add some basic information regarding Kuwait and Camp Buehring.

The thank you stamp is of course from Stampin' Up!

With the third page, I added the card that he sent me and a picture of him at his favorite place!  :o)

The flag banner that I created is all from Stampin' Up!

Personalized Baby Onsies

Machine Used: BossKut Gazelle
Software: Funtime Scrapbooking IV
Files Used: Baby Bib with Bows by Scrapcuts by Judy
Materials: Heat transfer vinyl, plain white baby onsies

My cousin approached me and asked if I would be willing to make her some onsies for her great niece that is due in January.  Well, obviously I said yes and here is a result of that request.  She gave me the sentiments that she wanted and I chose fonts, layouts, and designs.

For some of them I referred to the internet for inspiration.

The first onsie below with the bows I had originally wanted to add the complete file Baby Bib with Bows by Scrapcuts by Judy but was having some issues with getting the bib to fit how I wanted it on the onsie.  It's such a beautiful file and I didn't want to distort the image too much and risk loosing the beauty of it.  So, I chose to use the bows from the file and add a layered necklace.

Simple designs that add just the right touch to a plain white onsie.

Etched Wine Glasses

Machine Used: BossKut Gazelle
Software: Funtime Scrapbooking IV
Files Used: Simple Fruit Grapes
Materials: Oracal 631 vinyl, Armour Etch

This simple project was created as a gift.  I purchased a set of 4 white wine glasses, something I knew that she would like, and added a little personalization to them.

For the first one, I started with the sentiment, "Aged to Perfection."  I used the BlackJack true type font and welded the letters together in Funtime.  It's one of my favorite fonts to work with lately because I love the look of it when it's welded together.

From the Open Clip Art Library, I downloaded the Simple Fruit Grapes and used the auto vecto feature in Funtime to create the cut file.

For the second one I typed out "Mimi's Sippy Cup" in a true type font called first-grader.

The third and the fourth took a little more time to complete.  I stared with the initial of a first name and used the font Easy Street EPS.  To create thicker lines, I outlined the letter and deleted the original inital.  The benefit to doing this was create the thicker lines and then making it easier to see in the design on the wine glass.

The first names were typed in BlackJack true type font and again I welded the letters together in Funtime.

When I layered the intial and the name together it seemed as though the first name would be lost in the initial when they were etched together.  To get the first name to appear on top of the initial I started by creating an outline around the name.  Then in Funtime, I took the outline of the name and placed it where I wanted it to appear on the inital.

Make sure to first select the border of the name, right click, and then select To front.  This is important to make sure that you do because it is what will make the subtract function work the way we want for this application.

Once you have the name on top of the initial, select both and select the icon on the left of your screen to Subtract all selected objects to the first element.

Now if you go ahead a line up the name on top of the initial you will see a border around the name that goes through the inital.

When you're ready to cut the vinyl, make sure to cut all of it together.  That will make it easier and will keep the integrity of the design that you've just worked on!

Handmade Ornaments

Materials: Better than salt dough recipe, Christmas ornaments

With one of the snowy days we had recently, the kiddos and I decided we wanted to get creative!  Following this better than salt dough recipe, we got ready to have some fun.

After making the dough and letting it cool off, I cut the images we wanted using the cookie cutters.  The one I made for my furry baby, I used a heart and without much help from her, imprinted her paw into the dough.  We then put all the cut outs into the oven to bake.

Once they were out of the oven and cooled off, we got to painting.  Since the only paint I have in the house is a water based, kid friendly paint, that's what we went with.  I'm thinking that an acryllic paint would most likely work best.

We had A LOT of fun and now have some ornaments to hand out to family!!

Scrapbook and Journal

On my hubby's last deployment to Kuwait he picked up this beautiful camel leather scrapbook and journal filled with blank flower pressed paper for me!!  The workmanship on these are STUNNING and the pages waiting to be filled are GORGEOUS!  I think that he knows me well to know how much I would LOVE and APPRECIATE such a beautiful gift.  To think, I only asked a for a tee shirt.  :o)

The above images are of the journal.  The first picture is of the front and the second is the back.

A couple flower pressed pages of the journal.

The above images are of the scrapbook.

I'm really looking forward to filling these beautiful pages with the memories that we make together as a family!  I've already decided the first couple pages are going to document the gift I received and detail his deployment.  It will most likely have to wait until after Christmas and the New Year but I just can't wait!!

While I sincerely appreciate this gift, the best is having my hubby home safe and sound where he belongs!

Christmas Kusudama Ball

Materials: 3" Red Origami paper, green ribbon, white tassel, flower stamen

I've been wanting to make one of these for sometime now . . . probably about the time that I made all those bouquets for my sisters wedding.

I finally sat down long enough to make one and was inspired by the Christmas movies I've been watching as well as a Pinterest pin I saw.

When I first started make kusudama flowers, I followed these instructions for creating the pedals and the flower.

To make a kusudama ball ball, I followed the instructions available here.

As with most things that I'm inspired to create, I enjoy changing things up a bit to "make it my own." After the folding the paper square in half, I took ONE corner and used a corner round punch.  This gave the the red the rounded look while letting a little of the back white peek through.

I continued the with the steps of putting the flowers together and then the kusudama ball.  I LOVE the way that this turned out.  I'm interested in making some more of these, hopefully taking in each of the upcoming holidays into account.

As always, if you have any questions please ask.  I love being able to help you achieve your creative potential!!  While you could always leave a message here, I check my Facebook Page more often.

Lil' Princess Tee Shirt

Machine Used: BossKut Gazelle
Software: Funtime Scrapbooking IV
Files Used: Butterfly with Flourishes 0395, Princess Hand Mirror by Judy Stark BKD 002
Materials: Heat Transfer Vinyl, Light Pink Rhinestones

I recently made a Service Flag tee shirt for my Mom and my daughter saw it.  That was the end of that, now she wanted me to make a shirt for her as well!

For her, I decided to add a little more Princess to it.  It was something that I thought that she would appreciate A LOT more.  :o)  I started by finding the perfect sentiment and worked in Funtime to get the layout just right.

I used the Funtime font, Impress BT Regular, for the majority of the sentiment.  "HERO" I used the true type font Army and for "Lil' Princess" I used the true type font CAC Champagne.

With Funtime, it made it so easy to add an outline to "Lil' Princess" so that I could incorporate my daughter's favorite colors.

Using the Butterfly with Flourishes 0395 and the Princess Hand Mirror by Judy Stark BKD 002 I positioned them around my sentiment.

I ironed on everything at once but the top layer of "Lil' Princess."  Once everything cooled a bit, I added the top layer of "Lil' Princess."  I love how easy it is to use more than one color of heat set vinyl and how well you can layer colors.

With everything in place, I needed to add a little bling to the crown.  Using Light Pink Rhinestones, I set them on the crown and using the already warm iron, I set them.

Overall I'm very happy with how this shirt turned out but I think that if I were to make another one I would use a lighter purple vinyl for the majority of the sentiment.

Service Flag Tee Shirt

Machine Used: BossKut Gazelle
Software: Funtime Scrapbooking IV
Materials: Easyweed Heat Transfer Vinyl

My Mom already has a service flag tee shirt that my Dad had bought her in the past.  However, if I'm remembering correctly, it only had 2 stars on it.  Now with 3 immediate family members deployed she needed a new one!  While she was wearing the one my Dad bought her I mentioned that she'd need on with 3 stars on it and the service members names on the back.

From there we talked about options and I told her that I'd get on it!  I ordered all my vinyl from Expressions Vinyl and I absolutely LOVED how easy this vinyl was to work with.

For the design I went to my Funtime Scrapbooking IV (available only with the Gazelle!) and layered 2 rectangles to create the base of the service flag.  Then I added 3 of the stars, making sure to round the corners just a tad (which you can't see in the design) so that they would cut better.

Using a very simple font, I typed out each of the service members rank, name, and branch of service.

When it came to ironing on my designs I needed to be careful because I was adding a design onto the front and back.  I ended up using a cutting board and placed it in the shirt.  Then following the instructions on the Expressions Vinyl website, I ironed on my designs.

A very simple project that speaks volumes!

A personal thank you to all our service men and women out there serving and a great BIG thank you to the families that stay home and support them!!

Wine Cork Shadowbox

Machine Used: BossKut Gazelle
Software: Funtime Scrapbooking IV
Materials: 11 x 14 Black Top Loading Shadowbox, Oracal 631 vinyl (indoor)

This project was inspired by a pin on Pinterest and this image I found on the internet.  I LOVE the idea of a single place to put all my wine corks.  Before I finished the shadowbox, I was collecting them in an oversized coffee cup and when that got full I transferred some of them to a plastic container.  I definitely needed a more creative place to keep them!

Once I decided to do this, I went straight to the internet to see if I could find a sentiment regarding wine that I would want on my shadowbox.  I also posted a message to Facebook to seek some guidance and suggestions from my wine drinking friends.  Of course in doing this, my sister decided she wanted one too!  That's not a problem when it comes to my Gazelle and Funtime.

I headed out to my favorite store to get some frames.  With the sale they had going on and the added coupon I got a GREAT deal on 2 of the 11 x 14 Black Top Loading Shadowbox.

Loved the way both of these turned out!!  Now we've got a place to store our wine corks until another project comes along and we need a few for that.  :o)

Vehicle Eyes

Machine Used: BossKut Gazelle
Software: Funtime Scrapbooking IV
Materials: Foam Board, contact paper

My dearest son is a HUGE Disney Cars fan.  If it isn't Lightning McQueen, then is has to be red.  For fun I just knew that he'd love it if I transformed our Jeep Wrangler into a vehicle straight out of the motion pictures that he loves so much!

Starting out with a couple pieces of black foam board, I cut them down and taped them together so that they would fit in the windshield.

Then using an image for the whites of the eyes and the eye balls, I sized them accordingly.  Then in Funtime, I cut the whites into 3 pieces so that I could cut it out in white contact paper on my 12 x 24 mat.  Carefully lining each one up to next so that it looked like one uniform piece.

With the help from Terri's latest class, I cropped the eye out of an image.  This made it easier copying it to an 8 1/2 x 11 worksheet and making a print and cut out of it.

A simple project that added a glow on my son's face!  So worth the effort and time.

I tried calling her Lightning McWrangler but my son insisted that it was Lightning McQueen.

Construction Cone Personalized Cups

Machine Used: BossKut Gazelle
Software: Funtime Scrapbooking IV
Materials: Oracal 651 Vinyl (outdoor vinyl)

With my dearest son's 3rd birthday quickly approaching I finally decided it was time to get some things done in preparation for the party.  As I'm sure with most boys his age, Disney Cars is the way to go.  We still watch it on a daily basis and his favorite color is red, just like Lightning McQueen.

While searching for some cute ideas for his birthday I came across these construction cone cups.  They are cute but I noticed that the biggest complaint about them was the paper on the base.  I went ahead an ordered them any in hopes that I would be able to do something about that.

Fortunately the cup can actually come off the base and I was able to peel the paper off easily.  I did some basic measurements on the size of the square and the diameter of the circle.  Then with the help of the Funtime software, I was able to create the same thing and cut it in outdoor vinyl.  It wasn't the easiest thing transferring the vinyl to the base but eventually with a little patience I did the best I could.  Now a more permanent fix and it will make washing the cups A LOT easier without having to worry about wrecking it!

I couldn't stop at the base . . . . not since I was on a roll!!  Using the same basic shape of the Cars logo, I added each the of the kiddos names to personalize the cups.

I used the true type font Magneto and welded the letters together in Funtime.

A fun little thank you to the kiddos attending and a way to keep from getting the drinks mixed up!

More to come on my son's birthday and until then KA-CHOW!!  ;o)
