My Children's Space - Learning the Weather

Materials: Regular computer paper, Xyron 900 Laminate/Magnet Refill Cartridge

With my daughter starting kindergarten next year and my son going into a pre-school, I've decided to help give them a head start by working on things that they are going to need.  So as we enjoy this summer, we will be using what is around us and the things we are doing to help those little lessons.  The goal is to make this fun so that they have no idea what that they're learning.  :o)

For this exercise I wanted to be able to incorporate several aspects of learning.  Using a 3 day system (yesterday, today, and tomorrow) my goal is to give them a better understanding of time without stretching too far into the week (we'll do that when I get to making the calendar).  It also gives us the opportunity to learn "what happened yesterday" and what the weather looks like today.  Then together, we look at the forecasted weather for tomorrow.

So far both my kiddos have enjoyed doing this and I'VE had to remember to moved the weather symbols YESTERDAY so that each get a chance to try it.

To create my chart and weather symbols I used Publisher.  I will be making these available for download just as soon as I get the hosting site set up and the chart exported as a PDF (hopefully this week 6/17/14).

After creating everything I needed, I printed it all out on regular 20# computer paper.  I ran each sheet through my Xyron 900 laminating machine using the Laminate/Magnet Refill Cartridge.  Then cut everything down to the size.  The chart is 9" x 6" and the weather symbols are 2.5" x 2.5."

I'm also in the process of making some worksheets that will help with writing their letters and spelling words that correspond to weather.  I will also share those just as soon as I've finished creating them.

Spruced up my Keurig

For my birthday this year I got a Keurig.  It took me a bit to transition from my coffee pot to the Keurig but then again when my coffee pot died I didn't really have any other options.  My biggest concern was the cost of the "K-cups" so I ended up purchasing those reuseable cafe cups.

 

My next concern was how plain it looked in my kitchen!  :o)

The first addition was adding the amount of the cup sizes since my dearest hubby and guests constantly ask me what the ounces were to each of the cups.  Of course noticing the circle shapes of the buttons, I decided to add my own "hidden Mickey."

After searching the internet for some coffee inspiration, I found that I really liked the "coffeeology."  Using several different fonts, I re-created it in my Funtime program.

During my internet search I also found this adorable coffee cup and steam made with hearts.  Absolutely loved it and converted it to a cut file and added it to the water reservoir.

Happy 1st Birthday Card

Materials: Card stock, pop dots, chalk or ink for shading

This simple card was made for a special little girl whose first birthday theme was Old McDonald.  Using the Funny Farm by Designs on Cloud 9 file, I cut out the farm, pig, and bear. 

With a little shading, I'm really happy with how these adorable cuts put together!

In the Funtime program, I created the oval and made a copy of it so that I had 2 of them.  I layered a 1 (one) on top of one of the ovals so that it would cut out.  After cutting the ovals, using pop dots, I layered one on top of the other for additional dimension.

"For You" Card

For this simple card I used the bird wings from the Bird Builder Punch 117191.  I inked the edges with Daffodil Delight 126944 and the "base" of the tulip I added Pumpkin Pie 126945.

Adding the shading to the tulips took A LOT of time but I feel it was well worth it when I was finished.  I just love what it adds to punch art when you take the time to do the little extras!

Valentine's Day Bucket

Materials: Plain bucket, Oracal 651 vinyl

I know, A LOT late in getting these posted.  I've been VERY neglectful in getting blog posts wrote up and pictures taken of my projects this year.  I made these for the WONDERFUL ladies that teach my children in their pre-school.

 

I wanted the names to be straight on the buckets.  In order to do that, I needed to figure out the dimensions of the cone that made the buckets.  Fortunately for me, my dearest hubby is an engineer and I could rely on him to teach me how to figure it out.  :o)  Here's what I used to figure out the arc for my writing.  I honestly don't remember where I got this from and wish that I could link to it directly.

 

 

It looks A LOT more difficult than it really is.  I liked the fact that I could cut the names in the arc, use transfer tape to maintain the integrity of the design, and it would be straight on the bucket.

Army Wife Wine Glass

I had so much fun putting this wine glass together!  My sister got this beautiful Air Force Wife wine glass and I immediately wanted an Army Wife one.  Well, instead of buying one that I found online, I chose to open up my Funtime program and get to work.  This made it easy to create the wine glass EXACTLY how I wanted it.

I used 4 images and I'm still debating if I want to add to the stem of the glass.

  

The castle on my glass represents my dearest hubby's MOS (Military Occupational Specialty), an Engineer!  Based on some of the cute Engineer wife things available, I used the sentiment "Queen of his castle" for the base of my glass.  Super cute!!

 

Here are my vinyl designs before application.  I definitely recommend layering your vinyl before applying it. 

 

The Army Wife design was one that I worked relentlessly!  I made several of them before finally finding the one that I liked the best.  With the help of Judy at Scrap Cuts by Judy, I got exactly what I wanted!  THANK YOU SO MUCH JUDY!!

 

The heart was the last design that I applied.  I couldn't decide which one I wanted to go with, the heart with the American flag or the one that looked more like a service flag.

 

I made both of these files easily in Funtime!

Scrapbooking A Deployment

Finally got to the first 3 pages of the beautiful scrapbook that my dearest hubby bought me while deployed to Kuwait.  Now that I've got started, the ideas are flooding with what to do with additional pages!

For the first page, I wanted to honor my husband and the beautiful gift he gave me.  I started with one of my most favorite pics of him from the deployment.  For the write-up, I simply inserted a picture of a Kuwait map into Word and used the washed out option.  Then I typed up some minimal information regarding his deployment and printed it out.  VERY simple!!  I cut it out to the size I wanted and then inked the edges for some additional dimension.

This beautiful file, Heart with Ribbon #JS1511, I got from Scrap Cuts by Judy!  I felt it was the perfect accent to this first page that showed where my love and support is.

Of course I had to do an additional second and third page because I had a few more pictures that I wanted to display along with a sweet card that he sent me.

 
For the second page I made sure to add some basic information regarding Kuwait and Camp Buehring.
